Valve has officially announced that the SteamOS operating system will be available on third-party devices, not just the Steam Deck. The first such device will be the portable console Lenovo Legion Go S.
Company representatives stated that they are preparing a beta version of SteamOS, which will be supported by third-party portable devices.
Among the main features of SteamOS, Valve highlights a fully optimized gaming experience similar to that on a console. This operating system is based on Linux. Most Steam games support this OS thanks to the Proton compatibility layer. If desired, third-party game launchers can also be installed on SteamOS.
As a reminder, rumors suggest that Valve may be working on a new generation of Steam Machines—a console-style gaming computer.
