TikTok is likely facing a ban in the US. The Supreme Court has upheld the law that would block the service, rejecting a challenge from ByteDance, the Chinese company that owns the platform.

The justices ruled that a ban on TikTok does not violate the First Amendment of the US Constitution, which guarantees freedom of speech. The ban is set to take effect on January 19th. To avoid the block, ByteDance would have to sell the social network to an American company within two days, something they appear unwilling to do.

The Verge reports that the current presidential administration may temporarily suspend the ban and pass it on to the new administration, which takes office on January 20th.
