Over the years, Fallout 4 has received numerous mods, but statistics show the greatest interest among players in new power armor and gameplay improvements. If you are such a player, we have specially compiled all the best and most popular mods for Fallout 4 power armor in this article.
The selection is relevant for PC, but some mods can be found on Xbox One and PS4 if you have a Bethesda.net account. We chose the mods that are supported by the authors and have the best compatibility with other modifications, but it's better to have the full version of Fallout 4.
This TOP does not include global mods, as they change the game too much and conflict even with simple modifications.
For installing mods, it is better to use the Nexus Mod Manager program, or choose the texture you are interested in and drop it into the Data folder in the root directory of the game. Also, the installation can be done through the game menu, we have indicated the name of each mod in English.
After the release of the Fallout series, many viewers became interested in the fourth part. Its main advantages over New Vegas are the quality shooting mechanics and reworked power armor, which functions as a full-fledged exoskeleton. The game has many types of armor, from simple to very fancy, with a lot of additional functions. But if that wasn't enough for you, you can add new armor sets using custom modifications.
Many players not only use ready-made power armor but also customize it to their taste. This mod adds new paint colors. Note that among the available modification options are 4K resolution textures that will make the armor look more detailed.
Broken Steel is the full-fledged finale of Fallout 3, where the forces of the Brotherhood of Steel and the Enclave clashed. Some elite fighters of the new US government were clad in X-03 power armor. Thanks to this mod, you can bring their armor into the fourth part of the series. They look great and have high protection characteristics.
A unique set of armor from the Vault-Tec corporation, which was engaged in the construction of all Vaults in the US. The signature style of the underground shelters is felt in the appearance of the retro-futuristic armor.
An interesting type of power armor styled after the Boston police. This mod slightly breaks the canon, as in the Fallout universe, such armor was only worn by American army soldiers. But if you are looking for something unusual, you can give it a try.
This modification adds armor from the online Fallout 76 to the fourth part of the series. It looks especially impressive in third-person view or when using VATS. It gives the impression that the Chinese communists have returned to take revenge.
An interesting type of power armor that looks like another development from the Institute. It seems that if a synth designer decided to develop exoskeletons for them, they would turn out something like this.
This mod adds a small quest called Buttercup, in which a raider decides to take revenge on his gang for breaking his favorite toy. As a reward, you will receive unique power armor with a helmet that looks like a horse's face.
This armor resembles the appearance of a Deathclaw, one of the strongest monsters in the game. It can be crafted at a workbench.
An interesting power armor that visually resembles the suit of Samus Aran, the main character of the Metroid series. Its characteristics are similar to the parameters of the X-01, worn by elite Enclave fighters.
And this armor makes you remember the Mass Effect trilogy. It doesn't look as bulky as other power armor sets but still offers high protection characteristics. However, don't forget that it still requires nuclear blocks to function.
Fans have released many new types of power armor for Fallout 4, but most often it's just a reskin. Looking deeper, we found several modifications that add new or unique variants of power armor.
Institute Power Armor is one of them; it appeared in the game's promotional materials but was not implemented. It's a shame, but fans have fixed that. This armor has an unusual and futuristic look, protection levels on par with the T-60, and an integrated jet pack.
To get it, you need any power armor with a jet pack. Jump onto the roof of Fort Hagen and find a box with armor elements there, then place them on any frame at a workbench. There are three sets, which allows you to upgrade them for different tasks. The only drawback is the lack of a head module, which can worsen the gameplay. Technically, the helmet is connected to the torso.
There is also a version with improved textures — you can download it from the official site.
Liberty Power Armor is styled after the giant robot Liberty Prime. It comes in several color schemes — Institute, Enclave, Railroad, Minutemen, Brotherhood of Steel, and a couple of unique enhancements. It offers improved protection parameters and can be found on one of the levels of the Watch Post Prescott pyramid in the Glowing Sea.
There is also an option to craft this armor through the chemistry lab in the Liberty section, which requires upgraded chemistry perks.
The Enclave X-02 Power Armor brings the Enclave back to Fallout 4 and not only looks intimidating but also provides excellent protection, slightly shifting the balance in your favor. It can be modified and upgraded at the workbench, turning it into a Tesla version, just like in Fallout 3!
The armor can be found in the Glowing Sea, at the Red Rocket gas station, which is buried under the ground.
Ever wanted to feel like a Big Daddy from BioShock? With this mod, you can! In the game, you can assemble several variants of this power armor, as well as choose from three helmet options — Submersible and Protector, and install different helmets — Rosie, Alpha, and the classic Big Daddy.
In addition to the classic upgrades, regular and unique modules, there are several paint jobs.
Finding the armor is not easy, as it requires passing through new locations. The drill weapon and one of the helmets can be found in the building of the Oceanographic Society, at the very southwest of the map.
The first power armor can be found at the lighthouse, near River Beach Harbor — take the elements off a Big Daddy. The second armor and figures can be found if you take a bathyscaphe to the city of Rapture. Travel light to bring the armor back.
It will not be considered theft. Note that this action takes about 30 minutes of game time, and don't forget to take all the valuables from the corpse, otherwise, the contents of its inventory will disappear.
If you are reading our article and have collected a hundred or so power armor elements, you will have another problem — the lack of frames. But by installing this mod, you will be able to assemble frames in the workshop menu, after which the item can be placed on the power armor station. Then you can use and customize it as you wish.
The next mod we would also recommend to every player. It removes the damage dealt by superhero landings in power armor to neutral or friendly NPCs. Now you don't have to worry about where you jump!
If you love upgrading your armor, you were probably disappointed by the ability to place only one module on each of its elements. The modification we offer you to download removes this limitation but strives to maintain balance — you can place a second upgrade.
Now you can create reactive stealth armor or protection from physical and energy damage:
By taking the Nuclear Physicist perk, you can make an additional upgrade to the torso, at the second level you will be allowed to place another upgrade on the legs and arms, and the third on the head. This mod is compatible with most mods but conflicts with large mods that globally change power armor upgrades, like Power Armor Overhaul.
The previous mod goes well (and fits into the gameplay) with the Power Armor Jump Upgrade, thanks to which you don't have to suffer from low jumps in power armor.
By installing reinforced springs on just one leg, you will jump twice as high as usual, and by placing the mod on both legs, three times higher. The mod does not replace the original module but adds another one — it is called Spring Loaders.
But if you want to increase the number of modules for power armor, you can install Mogomra.
It adds 7 new modules, one for the torso (drugs last 50% longer) and head (respirator), three for the arms (less bullet spread, more shooting accuracy, and more carrying capacity), and two for the legs (less visibility and more movement speed in a crouch).
Surely you have encountered a situation where you went on a trivial matter without power armor and got into serious trouble. The Power Armor Autopilot mod adds a new element — an artificial intelligence module for power armor, turning it into a companion and teleporting it to your position. It can be assembled in the chem lab.
After crafting, insert the module into the desired power armor and don't forget to insert a nuclear block, otherwise, it won't work. The suit will have a very large health reserve, but it can still be killed. To summon the suit on the battlefield, you need to craft a special grenade in the chem lab, and if you throw it not just anywhere, but at the feet of an enemy, they will be crushed by the suit after it descends from the air!
Jet packs caused a lot of negativity due to their unfinished state and scary appearance. Fans fixed this and even canceled the consumption of action points when using the jet pack.
You have two mods to choose from, which conflict with each other:
If you play with a build character, it makes sense to use it to kill enemies without paying attention to their damage. Additionally, there will be more raiders with power armor, but they will wear different upgrade levels; the higher the raider's rank, the cooler they are.
In a review of power armor mods, it's impossible not to mention the main skins worth trying. On Bethesda.Net, NexusMods, and ModDB, you can find thousands of options, but read the descriptions carefully — not all of them are fully polished. We chose the most useful ones.
Many players noticed that there are no Minutemen paint jobs for T-51, T-60, and X-01 power armor, only T-41 can be painted in this faction's colors. The MMP4APA mod eliminates this oversight and offers two paint jobs.
The Military Power Armor Skin Pack repaints T-45, T-51, T-60, and X-01 armor in modern military field camouflage — digital, desert, and urban. It looks cool and also increases health for armor fully painted in one color:
If you are looking not just for new textures but also in higher quality, pay attention to Power Armors Redone. The mod author used a set of textures from the developers and added his own where needed. As a result, each power armor looks incredibly detailed:
