In this article, we decided to recall 9 great games based on the Marvel universe. After all, there are many other popular heroes besides the Avengers. Our top includes Deadpool, Wolverine, Spider-Man, and many others.

Deadpool

Metacritic rating on PC: 63% from critics, 76% from players

Our TOP is opened by the game adaptation Deadpool, released in 2013. The adventures of a talkative mercenary received good ratings not because of the deep gameplay, which is simply not there, but thanks to the sense of humor of the scriptwriters, among whom, by the way, is one of the leading authors of comics about Wade Wilson — Daniel Way. In addition, Deadpool in the game was voiced by everyone's favorite Nolan North.

Alas, but there is practically nothing to praise the gameplay for. The entire game you have to run around dull locations and chop down crowds of similar enemies. The gameplay is a chore that you have to endure in order to hear the next portion of Deadpool's «gags».

X-men Origins: Wolverine

Metacritic score on PC: 77% critics, 79% players

Oddly enough, X-men Origins: Wolverine is similar to Deadpool in many ways. Both games are slashers, both are published by Activision. But in Wolverine, unlike Deadpool, the gameplay is excellent. Perhaps it's all about the more experienced developer. Before Logan's adventures, Raven Software managed to work on several X-Men games at once. Most likely, this experience played a key role.

It's funny that X-men Origins: Wolverine is a game based on the film of the same name. Often such games are perceived as a by-product or even a kind of «merch» of the film, but this time everything turned out quite the opposite. The film failed miserably at the box office, earning devastating reviews, while the game managed to win the hearts of fans with its bloody and spectacular gameplay.

It is sad that a talented studio, which released a good shooter Singularity a year after «Wolverine», has been an apprentice to Treyarch, Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games for 10 years now — helping to churn out one part after another in the Call of Duty series.

Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions

Metacritic rating on PC: 68% from critics, 79% from players

Our TOP couldn't do without everyone's favorite friendly neighbor. There are only 3 games about Spider-Man, and we will move from just good to excellent. Let's start, perhaps, with Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions, released in 2010. The game, from which no one expected anything, turned out to be one of the best games about Spider-Man in principle.

Instead of the usual open world, the developers from Beenox made chamber, but action-packed levels. The game has a pleasant visual style, thanks to which everything happening on the screen looks like a comic book come to life. Shattered Dimensions might have been even more of a hit, but five years earlier the truly legendary Ultimate Spider-Man was released.

Ultimate Spider-Man

Metacritic score on PC: 75% critics, 81% players

Ultimate Spider-Man has long been considered one of the best (if not the best) licensed games. Remember how much noise Batman: Arkham Asylum made in 2009? «Ultimate Spider-Man» thundered with about the same force.

A gripping plot, superhero abilities superbly transferred to the game format, the opportunity to play as Venom, after all. All of this made Ultimate Spider-Man a real hit that fans remember to this day.

Marvel's Spider-Man

PS4 Metacritic Score: 87% Critics, 87% Players

Ultimate Spider-Man sat proudly on the throne of the best Spider-Man game until Sony acquired the franchise. At first, it was unclear which of the Japanese company's studios would take on the development. The most obvious candidates were the employees of Sucker Punch Productions, since they made three parts of InFamous. But no, in the end, Insomniac Games was entrusted with the development, and as we have already seen, Sony made the right decision.

Marvel's Spider-Man managed to move the Batman: Arkham series from its place on the throne. It had everything fans loved about their friendly neighbor: breathtaking web-slinging, a dynamic combat system, a cinematic story, and, most importantly, memorable villains. The creators decided not to tell for the hundredth time who Peter Parker is, how he got his enemies, and why he wears a mask at all. So we are immediately thrown into the thick of things and shown all the opponents the hero has been fighting for 8 years.

If you haven't checked out Marvel's Spider-man yet, fix that right now. The game will not only make you feel like a superhero, but will also bring back warm memories of Sam Raimi's cult film trilogy.

Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series

Metacritic rating on PC: 78% from critics, 73% from players

It's not only Spider-Man who can boast a cool game named after himself. For example, there were also good games about the Guardians of the Galaxy. They are certainly far from the level of Marvel's Spider-Man, but the latest game by Telltale Games is great as a good TV series for a few evenings. Guardians of the Galaxy Telltale Games is a light adventure, after completing which only positive emotions remain, however, as well as from the films of the same name.

Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3

PS4 Metacritic Score: 77% Critics, 74% Players

Let's move on to large-scale crossovers. The first on our list is the fighting game Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3. Where else can you defeat the Hulk while playing as Rocket Raccoon? Moreover, you can play not only as Marvel heroes, but also as Dante, Chris Redfield, and other famous Capcom characters.

Marvel: Ultimate Alliance

Metacritic rating on PC: 82% from critics, 78% from players

Marvel: Ultimate Alliance is another superhero crossover, but without characters from other universes. In addition, it is a full-fledged RPG. There are 25 playable characters in the game, including Captain America, Doctor Strange, Deadpool and even Ghost Rider. Each of them has their own unique abilities, which opens up unprecedented scope for replayability.

In addition, Marvel: Ultimate Alliance provides the ability to play co-op. After all, no matter how good the game is, it is more fun to spend time in the company of friends. The question is, why do we need Square Enix's «Avengers» when we have Marvel: Ultimate Alliance for a long time?

LEGO Marvel Super Heroes

Metacritic score on PC: 78% from critics, 81% from players

We'll finish our selection with some innocent fun for the whole family. LEGO Marvel Super Heroes is a parody action game in which everything is made from LEGO bricks. The game's plot follows the first two parts of the movie «Avengers», but many events are played out with a large dose of humor.

The gameplay of LEGO Marvel Super Heroes is nothing special, but it's fun to play. If you like construction sets and are a fan of the Marvel universe, Super Heroes is a must-see.

And one more fact: the game was published not by Disney, but by Warner Bros, which owns the rights to all DC superheroes. This is definitely the crossover we deserve.

Perhaps, after the release, Marvel's Avengers will become a full-fledged member of our TOP. Although there is already plenty to choose from. Have you played anything, by the way? If so, share your opinion in the comments.
