«Severance» Second Season — It's gonna be more and more mysteriously

Severance, one of the flagship series on Apple TV+, already impressed critics and viewers in 2022. There was only one problem — the story stopped at the most interesting point, practically at its climax. The wait for the continuation was long, but now the second season has finally started airing, and we can find out what actually happened to Mark and the company. Or rather, let's discuss the debut episode, so to speak, the beginning. We'll talk about the entire season once it is fully released.

Let's say right away that watching the second season of Severance with memories of the first is a bad idea. You won't get any reminders or explanations; events jump, so to speak, straight into action. We strongly recommend refreshing your impressions and rewatching the first season entirely, or checking a brief summary online — it will help.

Mark lost his wife and the meaning of life. Tormented by grief, he agrees to work at a very strange company, Lumon Industries. The catch is that at the beginning of the workday, all his memories are blocked. Thus, a second Mark appears with his own views, beliefs, and colleagues like him.

The person from real life has no idea what they do in the office, and vice versa. The work version is called "intra," and the home version is "extra." Conceptually, all of this is a very subtle reference to real work activities on a schedule in some company, making it even more interesting to watch. However, the plot is, of course, more complex than it seems. We'll skip the details, but the first season ends with Mark and his "intra" colleagues finding a way to come to their senses outside the "severed" floor, even if only for a short time.

Moreover, now intra-Mark knows that his wife is actually alive, but he is in love with his colleague, Helly. Here's a new motivation and potentially very interesting conflict.

All the events of the first episode take place in the office. Mark is now separated from his colleagues as well. For most of the runtime, he tries to get them back. When he finally succeeds, the friends discuss what they managed to see "beyond the walls." An interesting moment — Helly lies to her friends and doesn't tell them that her extra is actually an important person in the company. Another cleverly arranged conflict that will show itself in the future.

The entire old cast returned to their roles. We will see Adam Scott, Zach Cherry, Britt Lower, and John Turturro again. This is great news because each of them is a true master of their craft. The chemistry between the small team of the Macrodata Refinement department is felt from the first seconds.

The mysteries haven't decreased. Who is the strange girl-boss, why were the rebels decided to be returned and not punished, and what will Helly do — we'll find out the answers only in the future. The bad news is that on Apple TV+, unlike Netflix, episodes are released weekly. Moreover, the creators are already working on the third season, which means we won't get all the answers.
