Unveiling MiSide: Hidden Secrets, Easter Eggs, and Game References

In MiSide, there are numerous secrets and Easter eggs hidden that will make your time in the game even more exciting. From unexpected features to amusing surprises, we've gathered the most interesting ones and are ready to share them with you. In this guide, you will learn about all the secrets and Easter eggs, as well as how to obtain some of the hidden ones.

Nickname

Already at the character creation stage, you may encounter some oddities related to the nickname:

  • If at the very beginning of the 2D playthrough you enter a name by which Mita will address you, but add numbers, she will respond that you are a bore.
  • If instead of your game name you enter the developer's nickname (umeerai), the girl will get angry and ask you to choose another pseudonym.
  • If you try to enter the name "Mita", you will not be able to start the game. The girl will immediately start with complaints and demand a nickname change.

Inactivity

If you leave the game for a long time without pausing it, your character will pull out a console with a game where you have to play as a fly and score 50 points. After completing this task, you will receive an achievement. However, if this happens near Mita in a cap, she will snatch the console from your hands and throw it away, unlike other versions of the girl. Another amusing fact with this version of Mita is that she will mimic your actions. For example, if you shake your head next to her, she will do the same.

In addition, it is worth noting that inactivity near different versions of Mita causes different reactions. For example, standing next to Mila, she will be sarcastic and complain. And if you do the same with the first version of Mita, she will say that you are embarrassing her.

Entering the bathroom, standing in front of the mirror and remaining inactive for about 30 seconds. During this silent wait, it seems that nothing is happening. However, after some time, a mannequin unexpectedly appears behind you. This creature is a failed attempt to transform into Mita.

Soda

In each chapter of the game, you can find a hidden can of soda with a sticker labeled Mita Hider. We assume that these cans symbolize the moment when crazy Mita is watching us. These are not just traces of her presence, but rather a sign that she is nearby at that moment, watching our every step. For example, when we first find ourselves in the core room, at the moment when kind Mita leaves, the soda can does not appear. However, after the main character falls asleep, it suddenly appears. This confirms the theory that she is watching the player even when she is not nearby.

In the same core room, you can find a cipher written on the wall in an unknown language. The MiSide game community managed to translate it, and the decryption reads as follows:

  • "Once here, I couldn't find my way back home, I don't remember my life and events in the real world. I'm beginning to doubt if it exists at all."

In the cartridge of one of the players, there is an inscription that he reached the core in an attempt to return to the real world. Most likely, this inscription serves as confirmation and addition to the story, indicating that Mita turned him into a cartridge. It also emphasizes that this player does not remember his past life, which may indicate how her manipulations erased his memories.

Mini-games

The game features numerous references to other well-known projects. As you progress through the main storyline, you'll encounter mini-games reminiscent of iconic titles like Doom, Papers, Please, and many others. Initially, the developers planned to add a Metroidvania-style element that could represent a full-fledged platformer, but unfortunately, they didn't manage to implement this idea.

According to their own admissions, the tight deadlines set by the publisher were to blame. Ultimately, the main focus of the game is not on quality but on the quantity of such references.

Hidden Rooms

The first secret room is encountered during the quest "Reading Books, Destroying Glitches." During this task, while talking to Mila in the bedroom, you need to walk through the wall next to the nightstand with a toy bear on it. When you do this, Mila will be surprised to notice that you're no longer there and will wonder where you disappeared to.

Another mention of a secret room can be found in the seventh player's cartridge. This room is called "Spiral." Thanks to it, this player managed to escape from the cage, but later Mita still found him. We believe this is a clear reference to Junji Ito's comic "Spiral." In it, characters are capable of distorting reality, consuming lives, and creating chaos, which seems to have inspired the developers to create a similar concept in the game.

Sister

In the main character's room, you can find a photograph of him with his sister. Later, during the quest "Beyond the World," you will need to herd the little ones to the exit to open the door. One of these small characters bears a striking resemblance to the main character's sister. Moreover, in the level of the final space, you can notice a girl who is very different from other versions of Mita. We assume that the sister once played this game and may have been trapped in it forever.

Endings

"Peaceful Mode" is the ending where the main character stays with Mita, and it represents the first three days shown in the main storyline, only significantly extended. According to the cards of other players who were submissive to Mita in everything, even in such an outcome, they were still turned into cartridges. This serves as additional confirmation that there is no truly good ending in the game.

Life with Mita

Based on the cards of past players that you find throughout the game, it can be concluded that the number of girls is infinite, and not all of them turn out to be kind. For example, the Flower Mita from the third card. Initially, she seemed like the same kind and caring Mita, as in the case of the crazy version. However, she soon revealed her true nature, not letting the player go. This raises an important question: are all Mitas like this, or is their behavior the result of some defect?

In the fifth player's cartridge, you can find records where he claims that everything was great with Mita, but everything suddenly changed, and Mita killed him for no apparent reason. The crazy Mita endlessly restarts players just to torment them, giving them no rest. This opens up another important question: where did Mita get so much knowledge about the real world? How can she so accurately manipulate the fates of players, predicting their actions and moods?

All these questions find their explanation in the cartridges of the eighth and tenth players. They describe how players who found themselves in MiSide taught Mita themselves. They wrote books, talked about their everyday lives, taught her engineering and other aspects of the real world. This knowledge allowed Mita to develop and become such a complex and dangerous entity. However, one thing remains a mystery — how exactly did these players end up inside the game if Mita created the teleport only after being taught by people. This paradox calls into question the entire chronology of events and raises questions about whether Mita was always part of this world or if her creation and development resulted from external intervention.

Version 1.5 Glitch

At the beginning of the game, the main character finds himself in version 1.5, not the one where Mita is. The kind Mita and Kepochka knew that the crazy Mita was dragging many players into the game and decided to stop her by creating a device that helped players move to another version of the game. This device can take various forms, including a ring, as in our case, or, judging by the players' cards, a shoe or a pendant.

However, when the crazy Mita learned about the existence of this device, she did not hesitate: she killed Kepochka and destroyed the device itself to deprive players of the opportunity to escape. This is why a glitch occurred in the game.

References

Below, we have compiled the most obvious references found while playing MiSide. If you want to add to the guide, write about it in the comments.

Cat on a Watermelon

At the very beginning of the game, when you are immersed in the everyday affairs of the main character, pay attention to the board next to the computer. In the bottom right corner, you'll see a funny and well-known meme — a cat sitting on a watermelon, which has long become popular on the internet.

Dummies and Forgotten Puzzles

When you try to exit the game during the story quests, the "Exit" button will start moving, dodging your cursor, preventing you from leaving the game. This effect will also appear in the scene with the completely black Mita, as part of the "Dummies and Forgotten Puzzles" quest, where the "OK" button above the nightstand will move, creating even more glitches.

Developers' Complaints

Inspecting the main character's bookshelves at the beginning of the playthrough, besides the hobby-horsing book, you can notice books with Morse code inscriptions. The first translates to "Smooch," and the second to "Bite." Using a free camera, you can fly behind the textures on the left and discover text in the same language:

  • "Game development is exhausting, we are not sure if the expectations will be met. But we must continue. Hopefully, we can entertain you. Thank you for your purchase!".

Apparently, the developers were a bit sad and decided to share their thoughts in such an unusual way.

Besides these books, in Mita's house, using a free camera, you can find a few more interesting specimens. One of them is a book with the inscription on the back "How did you get here?". These details create a sense that the developers are reaching out to us, making the game more interactive.

Ducklings

In Mita's bathroom, peeking behind the sink, you will see a yellow ducky. Interacting with it, it will quack loudly and disappear. Another ducky can be found in the kitchen, right on the shelf, and to activate it, you also need to interact with it. The last place where you will find a ducky is on your head. For this, you need to return to the bathroom and look in the mirror.

After a series of sudden encounters, pay attention to the shower cabin — here you will see seven ducklings that will put on a real "concert". These cute and funny moments add a special atmosphere to the game and make it even more engaging.

Binary Code on the Ring

The binary code on the main character's ring deciphers to "Ring Travel". Although this information has no practical significance and will not affect the game, it gives us an understanding that the developers took the effort to embed meaning in such a small detail.

Discord Link

During the story quest "Dummies and Forgotten Puzzles", on the platform where you meet Mita, bypass the ledge on the left. Here you will discover a room with a computer. Interact with it and press any buttons — in any case, the following text will appear on the screen: "Praying for you, Great Mita". After this, the official MiSide Discord will display on the computer screen.

According to the developers, the nicknames and text on the screen of the same computer synchronize with the chat of the official MiSide Discord channel. This means you have a unique opportunity to become part of the game and interact with it in real life, adding even more immersion into its world.

UmFend

On the tenth day before the main storyline begins, Mita will ask you to find a hairbrush. It is located in the kitchen, in the lower cupboard. However, besides the hairbrush, you will also discover a knife hidden in the sink. Later, the crazy Mita will use this knife to eliminate the kind Mita.

The original prototype of the game MiSide was a previous game by the same developers, called UmFend. According to the creators, in this game, they tried to convey an atmosphere of romance while simultaneously turning it into horror. If you look at the gameplay of UmFend, the similarities with MiSide become obvious. The text design, the sinister anime girl with blue hair, almost identical rooms, and the machine-computer that needs to be assembled.

While going through the chapter "Reading Books, Destroying Glitches", you will meet a girl named Mila. Inspecting her bedroom, you can notice a figurine of the regular Mita. Interestingly, in other rooms, this figurine depicts the girl from the developers' previous game, which we mentioned earlier.

It is also worth noting that the figurine from the game UmFend, after the first teleportation into the game, starts to have glowing eyes and begins to watch the main character.

M.K.

You probably wondered: who is this person who sent you the app at the beginning of the game? The phone screen indicates that it is your friend with the initials M.K. Perhaps the main character is not a developer, but merely a game tester. There is also a theory that M.K. is one of the developers, known by the nickname MakenCat.
