American Civil War: Gettysburg — The Battle of Gettysburg took place from July 1 to July 3, 1863 in Pennsylvania. The battle resulted in the greatest number of casualties in any battle of the war and was a turning point in the American Civil War. Within three days, General George Meade's Army of the Potomac defeated General Robert E. Lee's Confederate army, ending Confederate attempts to invade the North. The first day ended with the Confederates taking control of the town of Gettysburg, but they failed to advance and take the high ground. Day two was a day of a series of actions on both ends of the battlefield at Culp's Hill and Little Round Top.
