Games BlackSite: Area 51 All reviews Review from TravisBincle

BlackSite: Area 51 positions itself as a continuation of the rather interesting shooter Area 51, which had everything that X-Files fans love: evil aliens, a virus, government conspiracies, etc. It is surprising that despite the gloomy content, some elements were served in an ironic sauce, which gave the game some kind of charm. The same cannot be said about the sequel.

In general, other than the name, BlackSite is in no way connected with the original. However, otherwise it would not have helped her much. The fact is that the game is just a banal shooter, which a couple of black programmers worked on. How else can you explain the secondary and uninteresting plot? The main character and his partners carry out an operation in Iraq, where they end up in a secret laboratory and encounter mutants there. It is clear that everything got out of control, and a year later aliens overran the city of Rachel in Nevada. The hero, remembering his fighting skills, tries to figure out how to stop the onslaught and possible global invasion of aliens.

The developers swore that the plot was written by a certain O'Connor, but personally this is neither hot nor cold. Do you want banal dialogues? Banal plot devices? Moments in the style of “And you, Brutus?!” from which only the lazy will not yawn? Here you go. And following it, slowly unraveling a long tangle of all sorts of hodgepodge of conspiracies and evil military men, the game leads... To nothing. There is no ending here as such. Everything ends quickly, suddenly. What was that? What will happen now? There is no answer.

The gameplay here is standard for a shooter: run and shoot. But the mechanics are very crooked, and there are no dynamics at all. If you made it through your first shootout with cardboard weapons and stupid AI, congratulations, you'll get through 99 percent of the game this way. Whether it's soldiers or mutants, it's simply not fun to fight them all. Even the moments in the car don’t save you. They even make you angry, because in what other game will you control a car with a mouse?! And the final level will simply amaze you with its crookedness and complexity. And it's definitely not worth going through.

The graphics are not outstanding, but even bland. Cardboard models, average special effects, textures from the PS1 era.

The game can only be praised for its length - only 3-4 hours. Plus, the game has a very beautiful cover. That's all. In all other cases, it is recommended to spend your time on some other interesting shooter. And if you want to kill time, then... Better go through Area 51.
