They can build a network of underground passages — the entrance is at the base, and the exit is anywhere on the map, and this works both ways. But in order to build an exit, the worker must run there. When destroyed, buildings are not completely destroyed, but fragments with a bunker remain. After some time, this building will be restored, if the rubble is not completely destroyed.
