NATURE OF THE WORK
I came across this work at a period of my life when I had almost lost faith and interest in games as separate and serious works. Dark Souls "reboots" the essence of the computer game, as it weaves the fact of "gameover" into the fabric of the narrative. That is, this is a kind of breaking the 4th wall. That is, the player is immersed deeper into what is happening, since death and attempts become part of the process. And overcoming on the brink and, indeed, using and honing your own skills immerse you physiologically in this work. You are no longer just a spectator, but a participant.
NATURE OF NARRATION
Among other things, the long-emerging narrative style of narration has found brilliant implementation and a practical peak of development. Telling a story through objects, environments, locations, characters and the atmosphere around was incredibly suitable for a mysterious game about a kingdom lost in time and space. It's like in life - there is hardly anyone who constantly comments on your actions, choices and linearly guides you through the plot. In addition, the authors managed to create a reciprocal effect when players themselves interpret and complement the story in their own way. This is the highest art.
NATURE OF PRODUCTION
This is a work of art also in the sense that real masters of their craft worked here in a number of professions. Music and its production is one of the best examples in general. Object design and historians are such a fusion of realism and alternative reality. Screenwriters and poets - it sounds and looks like Ruslan and Lyudmila of the respected A.S. Pushkin. Programmers and developers - excellent game optimization, addictive gameplay, multiple playthroughs and incentive. You get used to the role, it penetrates you and you cannot resist what is inside you... inside your soul... the dark soul.
