Gothic was my very first game on PC, this undoubtedly left its mark and now I may be a little biased. But nevertheless, I will without a doubt recommend it to every RPG fan or just people who like games that have their own atmosphere.
This is one of the few games in which the world is truly alive. I won't talk about quests or plot. But here you can approach literally any character and ask about the world, and the answers of two different characters will be different, one will tell you, the other will send you to hell.
The atmosphere of the game is also enhanced by the wonderful music of Rosencrantz; in the TES series, of course, there is a main musical theme, but here, for each location there are 4 themes. Day\night and peaceful\combat. And all this music simply delightfully conveys the spirit of the game; once you hear it, you won’t confuse it with anything else.
The decent voice acting of the Snowball studio also contributes to the uniqueness; the actors really played their roles.
At the moment the game is already, if not a classic, then an ancient rarity. Even at one time, the game had a lot of bugs, and the graphics now don’t look as good as before. However, the game has its fans and is supported at the proper level, System Patch is released periodically, now the game can be run without problems on a widescreen monitor without a limit of 20 frames. And I advise everyone who considers RPGs to be their genre to do this.
