Heroes of Might and Magic 2: The Succession Wars is a continuation of the turn-based strategy with role-playing elements in a fantasy setting. The game takes place in the kingdom of Enroth on the continent of the same name in the fictional world of the same name. After the death of King Morglin of the Iron Fist dynasty, who appeared in the plot of the first part, a struggle for inheritance broke out between his sons, Roland and Archibald. Roland represents the good forces of Knights, Sorceresses and Mages, and Archibald represents the evil forces of Barbarians, Warlocks and Necromancers. The choice of heir in the kingdom of Enroth was to be determined by the royal seer, but he and his three successors die under different circumstances, allowing one to suspect the machinations of the evil Archibald in their deaths. Archibald publishes a proclamation claiming Roland's involvement in the incident.
