Hitman 2 is a direct continuation of Hitman in the new series of games about Agent 47 — the famous assassin known for disguises and espionage. Players will unravel the past of the elusive Shadow Client, pursuing targets across 6 exotic locations and executing the most complex assassinations in the franchise's history.
Unlike the previous game, Hitman 2 is not divided into episodes — all game content can be completed immediately. Stealth mechanics dominate over action, and the third-person camera remains. As with the entire Agent 47 series, stealthy playthrough is a key aspect of the gameplay.
As for innovations, the black case has returned, allowing players to hide and carry large weapons without attracting attention. There are fewer cutscenes, and no dialogues — now you can fully enjoy the gameplay.
A mini-map has been added, showing targets and potential threats — such as the risk of being exposed. It will also be useful during chases with security. If exposure cannot be prevented, a new display system will help understand your mistakes: for example, when security discovers a victim's body, the game shows exactly where and whose body was found.
When eliminating a target, many more objects can be used : tools, vegetation, costumes, poisons, weapons, breakable glass, rubber ducks — all simple things can become part of a complex trap. There are also false elimination scenarios that lead the agent into a trap.
All missions take place in different parts of the world. The location design is still top-notch, but the sandbox levels have significantly expanded in width, incorporating more scenarios for target elimination.
Additionally, IO Interactive was inspired by the best elements of Hitman: Blood Money. The level "Three-Headed Serpent" continues "A Vintage Year" about the three heirs of the drug lord Delgado, and "Another Life" is a reimagined "A New Life." The target is holed up in the suburbs — low white fences, two-story houses, barbecues — all that's left is to eliminate them unnoticed.
Modern technology has allowed for the addition of many details and various nuances, discovering which in a new playthrough, you can find ingenious schemes for killing targets.
The story of Hitman 2 continues the events of the original and revolves around secret societies controlling the world and Agent 47's role in all the happenings. The script ties together all the locations and live targets, such as drug lords, criminals, or businessmen. Fans will see familiar characters and find out what happened to them.
Despite all the storyline's advantages, don't expect anything unusual: there are few characters, and the events shown in the cutscenes often develop on their own — somewhere a crisis arises, someone makes decisions, and 47 does all the work. Like in a typical action game, the story of Hitman 2 plays a secondary role.
Moreover, it can be easily forgotten, getting carried away with pure gameplay — playing is much more interesting than following the story.
At the time of release, Hitman 2 was considered the most interesting project in the stealth genre, as the best ways to eliminate a target are not related to shooting or hiding skills. В Hitman 2 присутствует два соревновательных режима для нескольких игроков:
- Кооператив Sniper Assassin со своим сюжетом, в котором игроки должны уничтожить несколько целей с помощью снайперской винтовки за короткое время. Один игрок выбирает Агента 47, другой Найта и Стоун, у всех уникальные способности. Побеждает тот, кто наберет больше очков, но все устроено так, чтобы заставить двух людей играть вместе.
- В новом режиме «Призрак» в начале матча выбирается несколько целей, которые надо ликвидировать быстрее соперника. Никакой экипировки, чистая импровизация. Все работает ассиметрично — два мира, два киллера, два набора одинаковых целей, но игроки видят только призрак друг друга и не могут застрелить соперника.
- Разработчики усовершенствовали динамическую систему заданий («эскалации» из прошлой части) и погоню за «неуловимой целью».
- Уровни сложности влияют на количество врагов, число камер, внимательность охранников к посторонним звукам и внезапной пропаже коллег.
- Приятный бонус обладателям Hitman (2016) — в сиквеле можно переиграть все старые миссии, которые обновлены и дополнены — хороший повод освежить память.
