Finally, more than 70 hours later, after going through the company, all the extras. missions and clearing all locations, I am ready and want to share my impressions of this game.
I think many will agree that the film “Fury Road”, released last year, became one of the brightest and most adrenaline-fueled of the last decade. And after watching it, I wanted to experience the same delight from the game as from watching a movie. Did the games cope with this task? It’s quite difficult to say, but first things first.
The first thing I would like to note is that 70-80 percent of the game is, if you’ll excuse my French, masturbation. The real jerk off. Seriously, you will spend most of your time examining all the balloons (analogous to the towers from Far Cry and AC), clearing enemy camps, and looking for scrap (which is necessary to upgrade the car) in places of loot, which are simply crammed here an incredible amount.
The plot is also not very original. It is simple here and can be completed in literally 8-10 hours. Moreover, there are no interesting plot moves, or any interesting or varied missions. There was only one moment that gave at least some emotion, but nothing more. Well, the race in Gastown was cool.
All the bosses that come across throughout the game are like two peas in a pod: there are no special signs, special tactics or individual approach to each of them. Even the final boss is killed using the same mediocre methods.
The memorable characters here can be counted on the fingers of one hand, and the only characters that were really worked on were Max (a lone wolf, a selfish, completely touched type, who is haunted by the ghosts of the past, which he tries so hard to escape run away), and the Tin Man (Max’s faithful companion, the “Masterpiece” mechanic, who invented and lives according to his own “autoreligion”) There was also, of course, the girl Nadezhda and her daughter Slava, very cute characters who immediately sunk into my soul, but there are too many of them in the game few. That's it. The rest of the characters are completely cardboard and unmemorable.
A little about the gameplay. The combat system here is completely copied from Batman, but with some bells and whistles, such as effective finishing moves with melee or firearms.
The main problem here lies in the cars! You build your road warrior by collecting scraps and scrounging for needed parts, and cause mayhem in enemy territory, destroying convoys or competing on the race track.
The explosions here are quite juicy and destroying enemies at breakneck speed with a shot from an explosion harpoon, or by frying them with a flamethrower on a wheelbarrow is a pleasure. Over time, it will also be possible to install spikes on the car body in order to place the carcasses of opponents jumping on the car, as well as install a crusher on the wheels and a battering ram, which allows you to dismantle cars into scraps of metal. The Junkie XL soundtrack from the film plays perfectly well.
What you can’t deny the game is the atmosphere. Although the central location is the Wasteland, it nevertheless looks very nice, and curious, beautiful and even creepy places (for example, a den of vultures) are often encountered.
Along the way it will be possible to collect relics of the past that will tell how hard it was for people when the cataclysm happened. The game also has a side effect of the cataclysm, namely a storm, which also looks good, but from which you need to hide, because it poses a danger to the inhabitants of the Wasteland in open spaces.
Despite the listed disadvantages, I still enjoyed the game.
Yes, for the most part you do the routine, constantly collecting scrap and clearing camps, but the Wasteland was still interesting to study. And the car rides here are done well.
I can’t recommend it to everyone, because as the game progresses, the game turns into a vacuum cleaner simulator: you just ride from location to location, rarely paying attention to the plot, and clear the area, searching every corner.
But if you want to feel the atmosphere of the Wasteland, or drive your Interceptor like a breeze, destroying everything and everyone in your path, or just play as your favorite character, then it’s better to take it with a discount ;)
