Games Marvel's Spider-Man All reviews Review from Андрей Иванов_2

A little more than 2 years have passed since the release of the game, and almost a month since the announcement of the spin-off about Miles Morales at a presentation dedicated to PS5. And I think this is more or less the right time for a review.

Marvel's Spider-Man is one of Insomniac Games' first open-world projects, and they've more or less nailed this aspect. We have small sidequests that have some kind of story (Taskmaster, Oddball and Tombstone's line, as well as the capture of pigeons). There are also routine things like towers, car thefts and crimes. The plot came out worthy in the spirit, namely, of Sam Raimi with notes of Marc Webb, and not of the MCU films with Tom Hochland. Well staged drama in place? Yes. Is Spider's duality emphasized? Yes. And much more. There are also disadvantages to it, like the arc with Negative, which is a little unfinished.

Gameplay is good. The combat system is NOT Arkham Batman, simply due to the fact that it is not the famous Free Flow of Batman, but another system tailored to the improvisation of the spider. The player has complete freedom of action over the hero in battle and you can use whatever you want. The combat in this game reflects the essence of the protagonist of this game, just as Free Flow reflects the essence of the game's Batman. Flights on the web are beautiful, but after some time everything transforms into “pull up and jump, pull up and jump, and so on in a circle.” In this case, the same Web of Shadows or the game based on the third film did a better job, despite the lousy attitude of the community towards them.

The graphics are average, although sometimes beautiful views pop up. The Spidey costumes themselves look cool, especially the costume from Sam Raimi's films, as this is a perfect game adaptation of this costume in general. The localization is not bad, although there may be some flaws that I might not have noticed. Controls are smooth and comfortable. The sound and music are average as it's a pretty typical superhero band, although it would have been nice to have some variety like electronic music like the game based on the third film had. The theme of the battle with Scorpio from the game based on the film is still on my list of tracks that can be well FLEXED to. The enemies are varied and you need to look for one or another approach to them. And that's good. The bosses are not bad, but they are still bosses with the approach of the developers of Arkham Batman. That is, location bosses. These are Shocker, Rhino with Scorpio, optional Tombstone, as well as Electro with Vulture. The real bosses are the final confrontation with Mister Negative, as well as the final boss fight. You can also mention the Taskmaster (Brigadier, cough, cough), but, unfortunately, he did not turn out to be a local Virgil.

Summary: The game is solid, but it is not ideal and has some flaws. We can only hope that some of them will be corrected, if not in the sequel, then in the midquel spin-off about Miles for PS5.
