Usually, remasters are made for additional income and no effort is put into creating them. They will add new lighting, slightly raise the texture resolution, increase the contrast and that’s it. Then they release it with a new wrapper and price. There was even a case where the remaster looked worse than the original. But this did not happen with Metro.
Metro 2033 Redux is for me an example of a good remaster. The developers were able to improve the graphics almost to the level of Last Light. We changed the character models, redid the textures, lighting, added hiding places, and even expanded some of the locations. The game world has become more real and you want to study it more.
