I looked at the dusty box of this masterpiece and decided to write a little, otherwise it’s generally quiet here about this game.
Let me start by saying that I am a fan of puzzles\quests, etc., and I can note that this game, for some reason, passed by ordinary gamers...
Eh, so .. The game, released in 2007, really surprised with its graphics, because... she really is on top, the plot itself is about an alcoholic psychiatrist whose wife left him. His task is to find out about outbreaks of violence among ordinary people aged 18-20. After the incident, they were locked in a mental hospital, this location will be our main one. Patients do not remember anything, some are in a state of catatonia (roughly speaking, you sit, remain silent, look at one point and do not react to anything). This is where the abilities of our former field doctor David McNamara come in handy. Armed with a voice recorder and the desire to find out the truth, the main character little by little “digs” a tunnel for himself into the subconscious of the children and finds out what, apparently, it would be better for him not to know...
In general, the game itself consists of:
1) a lot of dialogues (You are a psychiatrist, and they need to talk so much:) );
2) several locations (yes, there really aren’t many locations for Mr. McNamara (**pay attention to this, because you can play not only for him!));
3) Your inventory will never be overcrowded, there will always be only a few things in your pockets, but how and when to use them, then you will need to think about everything;
4) Intrigue upon intrigue (well, seriously, in the middle of the game you will completely forget that you are a simple psychiatrist)
5) The presence of psychological pressure on the *** PLAYER, having learned what David finds out, you will be shocked no less than him ;
6)Life line. The main character cannot be 100% just a psychiatrist; we do not forget that he is also a human being.
In general, the game is really wonderful, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND it to fans of quests, secrets, puzzles, detective stories and psychology. I forgot to mention that the flashback system is also well-developed and you need to keep all the details in your head in a chaotic order, for this a voice recorder will be very useful, because... the volumes of information will be simply unimaginable.
Let me summarize. An excellent quest that will not let you just sit and get bored, but will force you to get into the shoes of the main character and you will be absorbed in the events of what is happening. For some reason, some people compared Overclocked with Fahrenheit, but after replaying Fahrenheit several times, I will tell you that the only similarity is that the game does not let you go from the computer. And so, these are different genres.
Thank you for taking a minute of your time and reading this review, I hope that at least 1 person will want to play not “newfangled toys”, but something of really high quality but unreasonably forgotten and not even considered. Once again, thank you.
P.S.: 8.8 McNamara out of 10 (since the ending spoiled the attitude towards the game a little)
