Games Zombotron All reviews Review from DonSancho

It's finished!

Finally I completed the new Zombotron!

I've been waiting for this moment for several years and now - the game is completed!

What can I say about the passage? It brought me more than ten fascinating hours.

The gameplay has undergone some changes compared to the previous parts, but in general the process of blowing off heads with a hail of lead and blows with heavy objects remains the same.

The enemies have become smarter, faster (so much so that you simply won’t be able to run away on your own from another bloodthirsty zombie or saber-toothed spider), and most importantly, the opponents have finally learned to jump on obstacles.

The game looks fresh on the Unity engine. The graphics from 2D have become 2.5D, that is, the view of the character is already open simultaneously from the side and from above, at an angle, so to speak. The graphic style is pleasing to the eye and although it looks a little cartoonish, passions run high like in a real blogbuster.

There are more weapons, and their choice is more diverse, from revolvers and the good old Kalash to futuristic barrels of strange shape and a wide selection of different grenades and bombs.

The number of character lives is no longer infinite. Now, if you die several times in a level, you will have to start it over again. In my opinion, this made the game more tense and the first aid kits more valuable.

The author clearly wanted to add an RPG element to the game, but it looks somewhat inferior, everything is limited to pumping up three parameters: strength, accuracy and dexterity. I can't say that this greatly affects the gameplay.

The gameplay itself has become more diverse: in addition to shooting at everything that moves, you will sit behind the wheel of a zombie car, protect the peace-loving droid Harry and get into many different troubles.

I was pleased with the many locations - each with its own atmosphere. Jungles inhabited by aggressive fauna and wild tribes, mines teeming with spiders and inhospitable robots, ancient pyramids, in the labyrinths of which you will meet their creators turned into the living dead, former colonist bases destroyed and looted by local residents, as well as ancient magical temples, starship crash sites and many other interesting places. Also at each level there are several hidden places, secret passages in which valuable items and credits are hidden - the game currency. Speaking of which, there are places in the game where you can buy medicine, ammunition, equipment and rare guns, but all these valuables can be found at levels without spending a penny. Simply having money simplifies the process of searching for all sorts of valuables.

Compared to the last three games, there are more types of enemies and they have all become angrier, stronger and more cunning.

In addition to the zombies, spiderlings, robots and forest savages already familiar to us, ancient townspeople turned into monsters, mutants generated by God knows what, and bosses appeared, defeating which will not be easy for you. There are five of them in total and each is the most powerful representative of a specific type of enemy. Although my main enemy was the sharp grass, one step on the growth of which sharply reduced my HR.

Now about the plot: It’s not that simple here. By following the author's blog, you can find out that our wonderful Anton Karlov wanted to complete the storyline of the entire Zombotron series with this game.

I also wanted to know how the story of the brave star traveler and his partner Finna would end. I wanted to find out what awaited them after jumping into the portal that was supposed to save them from captivity on the ill-fated planet. But - alas. The publisher's patience is not rubber and the authors were simply not given enough time to create their dream game. We had to hastily cut out many locations and characters, and also completely change the plot, simplifying it. As a result, we have the story of a completely new character - a starship pilot who flew to an unfamiliar planet because of a signal for help, but who himself became a prisoner of these places. The plot is almost the same as in the last game. We will not meet our acquaintances from the previous parts and will only hear mention of them in some dialogues. I personally am sorry that the project did not turn out the way the creators intended, but I hope that this is not the end and we will see how this interesting story ends. I personally perceive this storyline as just an addition to the main story, just like the very first part of the series of games, where we were in the skin of a simple biorobot without a past and future. I want to believe that just like the first part was a test of the pen before creating the next two, the fourth part will become just a warm-up for the authors before creating the fifth episode that will complete the story. In the end, perhaps this is the game that will open the Zombotron universe for many, and therefore it’s good that it is suitable for perception by those who are unfamiliar with past episodes.

In any case, this toy turned out great and I sincerely recommend it to anyone who wants to spend a couple of evenings in the company of a heavy machine gun and bloodthirsty aliens hungry for your flesh.

Forward, towards the roar of explosions and the fury of bloody battles!
