It seems that Sony intends to reduce or even stop releasing physical copies of games. According to Japanese media, the company is laying off 250 of its employees from its recording media division.

According to The Mainichi, citing its own sources, about 250 of 670 workers will be laid off from Sony's key optical media production center. The company also allegedly intends to phase out traditional storage media such as Blu-ray discs. What is noteworthy is that the latter are used for games on the PlayStation.

The official reason for the refusal of the discs was reduced demand, The Mainichi reports.

Earlier it became known that the PlayStation 5 turned out to be Sony's most profitable console.
