Indie sandbox Terraria has officially moved into eighth place on the list of best-selling games in history. The game surpassed the classic Super Mario Bros. in sales, reaching 58.7 million copies.
The Re-Logic studio itself announced this on the official forum of the game:
Thanks to the support of Terrarians everywhere, we are very proud to share that Terraria has surpassed 58 million units sold — 58.7m to be more exact, with nearly 32m from PC alone!
Thus, the survival game took eighth place in the TOP 10 best-selling video games, displacing Super Mario Bros., which was bought by 58 million players worldwide. In honor of this, the developers presented art referencing the famous platformer about a plumber. They also thanked the audience and announced something «exciting» that would happen once the game hits the 60 million sales mark.
