Game journalists have given their verdict on Slitterhead, the new horror game from the author of Silent Hill and Gravity Rush, Keiichiro Toyama. The debut project of the Bokeh Game studio has received rather average ratings from critics.

The game received a 67% rating on Open Critic and 60/100 points on Metacritic. Judging by the reviews, the project was not released for a wide audience and, despite its obvious «pluses», has significant shortcomings.

Ratings:

  • Press Start Australia — 8.5/10;
  • TechRadar Gaming — 8/10;
  • GamingTrend — 6/10;
  • Noisy Pixel — 7/10;
  • IGN — 5/10;
  • Screen Rant — 6/10;
  • VGS — 2/5;
  • Metro GameCentral — 3/10.

Critics praised Slitterhead for its unusual gameplay with innovative concepts and «fearless inventiveness.» According to them, Keiichiro Toyama has not lost his creativity and is still able to surprise players with a new project. However, despite dynamic combat and interesting decisions, the game resembles a typical indie project with big ambitions and small resources, and unsuccessfully combines the action of Devil May Cry and survival horror.

Slitterhead will not appeal to everyone due to its peculiarities, it is a bit clunky and often reuses content. But behind these shortcomings lies one of the most unique games of the last few years.
— TechRadar Gaming
This is a game that is frustrating at times, but also fearlessly inventive. If you are looking for an original take on the survival horror genre, then Slitterhead is what you need.
— Push Square
Slitterhead is the perfect definition of a game that doesn't know what it wants to be. It doesn't quite measure up to the action genre or the horror genre, leaving the overall experience lacking.
— GamingTrend

Slitterhead is set to release on November 8 on PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.

By the way, players recently solved one of the main mysteries of Silent Hill 2 — with the help of the remake's developers.
