Ubisoft has made an important announcement for all XDefiant players: the project is set to shut down. Players will be able to enjoy the game until June 3, 2025, after which the servers will cease operations.

Thank you for your incredible support and dedication to XDEFIANT. We regret to inform you that we are initiating the sunset process starting today, December 3, 2024. As a result, new downloads, player registrations and purchases will no longer be available. Season 3 will still launch. The servers will remain active, and the game will be fully playable until June 3rd, 2025.

For those who purchased the Ultimate Founders Pack, you will receive a full refund. Players who made any purchases within the last 30 days will also be fully refunded.

The decision to close the game is attributed to low activity and a declining player base in XDefiant recently. Notably, the game was released in May this year on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. It is a free-to-play multiplayer shooter featuring characters and locations from various other Ubisoft projects.

It has also been revealed that Ubisoft will conduct a wave of layoffs affecting nearly 280 employees from the XDefiant team.

Even if almost half of the XDefiant team worldwide will be transitioning to other roles within Ubisoft, this decision also leads to the closing of our San Francisco and Osaka production studios and to the ramp down of our Sydney production site, with 143 people departing in San Francisco and 134 people likely to depart in Osaka and Sydney.

It's worth noting that earlier reports indicated Ubisoft had requested Valve to hide player count data for its games on Steam.
