Indie Games Platform itch.io Shut Down Because of Funko Pop — AI to Blame
A fairly well-known indie game service itch.io lost its platform for an extremely ridiculous reason. The culprit was the manufacturer of Funko Pop figurines, or rather, its AI-based security software.
As reported by the official itch.io account on social media, Funko uses the Brand Shield brand protection program based on artificial intelligence, which detected some kind of violation in the service. The software immediately created a phishing report for the iwantmyname registrar, which automatically disabled the itch.io domain. Although the site owners have already deleted the disputed page, they have not yet received a response from the registrar.
I kid you not, @itch.io has been taken down by Funko of "Funko Pop" because they use some trash "AI Powered" Brand Protection Software called Brand Shield that created some bogus Phishing report to our registrar, iwantmyname, who ignored our response and just disabled the domain

As a result, the service is still down, and neither players nor developers have access to it. In addition, game creators can no longer use the itch.io domain name for their social media profiles.
