Doom Can Now Be Played in a PDF File: Available for Everyone

The original Doom, released in 1993, has been ported to a wide variety of devices, from Notepad to the Nintendo Alarmo smart alarm clock. Now, an enthusiast known as ading.dev has managed to run the game in a PDF file.

I made a Doom source port that runs within a PDF file. PDFs support javascript, so Emscripten is used to compile Doom to asm.js, which is then run within the PDF engine. Input/output is done by manipulating text input fields.

Anyone can play Doom in a PDF file. All you need is to follow a link in any Chromium-based browser (Google Chrome will do). You can control the game using a virtual button field located below the game screen.

As a reminder, Doom: The Dark Ages is currently in development for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. According to insider Nate The Hate, the game might be released in May.
