Shrek 5 Delayed Months Due to Minions 3

Universal Pictures and DreamWorks Animation have announced that Shrek 5 will be released later than planned. Instead of the new adventures of the green ogre, viewers will see Minions 3 from Illumination.

According to Deadline, the studio decided to make a reshuffle due to the fact that the Minions franchise has been dominating the box office on Independence Day in the United States for quite some time. Therefore, the third part of the adventures of Gru's assistants was moved from June 30, 2027 to July 1, 2026, putting the premiere of Shrek 5 in its place. The latter will now be released a few months later — on December 23, 2026.

Another reshuffle affected another untitled project from Illumination. Instead of March 19, it will be released on June 30, 2027.

Shrek 5 will premiere in time for the 25th anniversary of DreamWorks Animation. Franchise veterans Walt Dohrn and Conrad Vernon will direct, while actors Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy and Cameron Diaz will return to their iconic roles.

Earlier, the prototype of Donkey from Shrek died in California (USA). Donkey Perry had to be put to sleep due to a severe hoof disease at the age of 30.
