A fresh update for Steam has added family groups, which have been tested since March 2024. They will replace the existing Steam Family Sharing and Family View features.
The family group allows sharing games with family members and friends. Previously, such a feature also existed, but it required logging into another account for setup. Now everything is much simpler.
Each group member will have their own saves and achievements in Steam. If you have children, family access allows you to restrict store access, set playtime, and view reports.
Each group can include a maximum of six people. Valve warns that you can only join a new family group a year after joining the previous one.
