The fan YouTube channel Residence of Evil recently released a video with rumored details about Resident Evil 9, based on information from a player who allegedly tested the horror game in April and September.
Here's what the leak suggests:
- The events take place four years after Resident Evil Village, with Leon Kennedy and Jill Valentine as the protagonists. Jill's appearance will remain mostly the same, while Leon is described as slightly older, sporting stubble and longer hair; Jill will wear a tactical outfit similar to her Resident Evil 5: Lost in Nightmares look, and Leon's design is reportedly inspired by his look in the movie Resident Evil: Damnation;
- The plot centers once again on the mold from the previous two games. Leon and Jill arrive on an island to investigate a mysterious company whose scientists were responsible for creating Evelyn from Resident Evil 7 and are now using the Megamycete to mass-produce clones of her. At some point, both Leon and Jill become infected, leading them to experience hallucinations and hear Evelyn's voice;
- Chris Redfield and Barry Burton will appear as secondary characters, occasionally calling Leon and Jill for assistance with various missions. Rose, Ethan's daughter from previous installments, is also mentioned;
- Blue Umbrella, the organization with a seemingly benevolent agenda, will reappear as the «good guys»;
- Players will explore various eerie locations such as an abandoned hospital, caves, empty houses, labs, dark forests, and a temple;
- Enemies and Antagonists: The main foes will be evolved zombies similar to the Resident Evil 4 Ganados, while the central villain, Mr. Simon, oversees mass production of bioweapons. The game will also feature two unique mutant enemies, one of which is described as a «goat-man» who stalks the protagonists.
No official announcement date has been provided by Capcom yet, but the long-awaited reveal might take place in December at The Game Awards 2024.
