NVIDIA Unveils RTX 5090, RTX 5080, RTX 5070 Ti, and RTX 5070: Key Details from CES 2025
On January 7, during CES 2025, NVIDIA announced its new RTX 50 series of graphics cards. The lineup includes four models: RTX 5090, RTX 5080, RTX 5070 Ti, and RTX 5070. These GPUs boast significant performance gains and introduce the exclusive multi-frame generation technology. Here's everything you need to know.
New Architecture:
The RTX 50 series is built on the new Blackwell architecture, named after mathematician David Blackwell. Featuring a staggering 92 billion transistors, it is the most powerful consumer GPU to date. The GPUs are equipped with GDDR7 memory, delivering speeds of up to 30 Gbps and memory bandwidth of up to 1.8 TB/s.
Specifications:
Performance Boost:
NVIDIA claims that the new models are up to twice as powerful as their predecessors. Remarkably, the RTX 5070 is said to rival the performance of the RTX 4090.
Sizes and Dimensions:
RTX 5090:
Dimensions: 304mm x 137mm x 2-slot width. Power Connector: Four 8-pin PCIe or one PCIe Gen 5 cable (600W).
RTX 5080:
Dimensions: 304mm x 137mm x 2-slot width. Power Connector: Three 8-pin PCIe or one PCIe Gen 5 cable (450W or more).
RTX 5070 Ti:
Dimensions: Varies by manufacturer. Power Connector: Two 8-pin PCIe or one PCIe Gen 5 cable (300W or more).
RTX 5070:
Dimensions: 242mm x 112mm x 2-slot width. Power Connector: Two 8-pin PCIe or one PCIe Gen 5 cable (300W or more).
DLSS 4:
DLSS 4 is NVIDIA’s latest image-scaling technology powered by the RTX Tensor Cores. It utilizes a new transformer-based architecture, similar to AI models like ChatGPT, Gemini, and Flux. Key features: 40% faster than DLSS 3, 30% less VRAM usage, superior artifact reduction, including the elimination of ghosting.
All RTX GPUs will support DLSS 4, while 50-series cards will exclusively feature multi-frame generation, allowing up to three additional frames to be generated per rendered frame. This technology enables demanding games to run at 4K resolution with up to 240 FPS.
Laptop GPUs:
NVIDIA also announced plans for laptops featuring the RTX 50 series, including the flagship RTX 5090. Enhanced Max-Q technology will improve power efficiency and battery life. Future announcements may include lower-tier GPUs like RTX 5060 Ti and RTX 5050.
Pricing and Availability:
- RTX 5090: $1999;
- RTX 5080: $999;
- RTX 5070 Ti: $749;
- RTX 5070: $549.
The RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 will be available starting January 30, while the RTX 5070 Ti and RTX 5070 are expected to launch in February.
