ASUS unveils Thunderbolt 5 external GPU featuring RTX 50 series

ASUS is set to release an innovative solution for gamers seeking powerful graphics on the go. The ROG XG external GPU, equipped with Thunderbolt 5, promises to revolutionize mobile graphics acceleration. Featuring models based on the GeForce RTX 5070 Ti and RTX 5090, it offers outstanding performance, improved cooling, and additional ports for enhanced functionality.

The ROG XG Mobile now incorporates Thunderbolt 5, which boosts data transfer speeds to 80 Gbps—far exceeding the limits of previous standards. This upgrade enables the full potential of next-gen GPUs, delivering significantly better performance compared to its predecessors.

Weighing just 1 kg, the new XG Mobile is a compact powerhouse with an upgraded cooling system featuring a vapor chamber and dust filters. Cooling efficiency has been improved by 54%, helping to maintain lower temperatures during heavy workloads. Noise levels have also been reduced by 3 dB compared to the previous model featuring the RTX 4090.

For stable operation, ASUS equipped the device with a built-in 350 W power supply, ensuring sufficient power for mobile GPUs while also supporting laptop charging. Expanded connectivity options include 5G Ethernet, USB Type-A, HDMI 2.1, DisplayPort 2.1, and an SD card slot.

The ROG XG with the RTX 5070 Ti starts at $1,999, while the flagship RTX 5090 model is expected to carry a higher price tag. The device is scheduled for release in the first quarter of 2025.
