Qualcomm announces Snapdragon X for affordable Windows devices on ARM

At CES 2025, Qualcomm unveiled the Snapdragon X processor designed for budget-friendly laptops and mini-PCs running Windows. It complements the Snapdragon X lineup, which already includes the more powerful X Plus and X Elite models.

The Snapdragon X is built on a 4nm process and features eight Qualcomm Oryon cores clocked at up to 3.0 GHz. It delivers better energy efficiency than the Intel Core i5 120U while extending battery life.

Key features of the Snapdragon X include:

  • Artificial Intelligence: Equipped with a Hexagon NPU offering 45 TOPS performance, optimized for Microsoft Copilot Plus;
  • Graphics: Adreno GPU delivering 1.7 TFLOPS, suitable for office tasks and streaming but not gaming;
  • Memory and Storage Support: LPDDR5x memory up to 64GB and NVMe SSD PCIe 4.0;
  • Displays: Support for internal displays up to QHD resolution at 120 Hz, along with up to three external UHD monitors or two 5K displays;
  • Networking: Integrated Snapdragon X65 5G modem, Wi-Fi 7, and Bluetooth 5.4;
  • Multimedia: Support for H.264, HEVC, and AV1 codecs, 4K HDR video, and cameras up to 36 MP.

Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, and Lenovo are expected to launch devices powered by Snapdragon X as early as Q1 2025. Prices for these laptops and mini-PCs will start at $600, making them significantly more affordable than devices based on X Plus and X Elite.

According to Qualcomm, more than 60 Snapdragon X-powered devices are currently in development, with that number expected to exceed 100 by 2026. This highlights the growing adoption of ARM-based platforms within the Windows ecosystem.

Snapdragon X paves the way for affordable devices with high performance and energy efficiency, offering users more choices and an attractive balance between price and quality.
