Microsoft Denies Rumors of Potential Xbox Shutdown
On January 15, The Information published an extensive report on Microsoft that sparked widespread discussion online. The article claimed that in 2021, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella considered shutting down the Xbox brand and that the acquisition of Activision Blizzard had failed to meet expectations. Two days later, representatives from Microsoft and Activision refuted these claims, stating that the report overlooked several key details.
The company pointed to its last four financial reports, which highlighted increased revenue from Xbox. In one statement, Satya Nadella also emphasized that the acquisition of Activision Blizzard helped Xbox achieve a record number of monthly active users and new Game Pass subscriptions.
As for the claim about a possible Xbox shutdown, Microsoft strongly denied it. To support their stance, they referenced a 2021 statement from Nadella, in which he affirmed that Microsoft is "all in on gaming."
According to Microsoft, the current Xbox audience exceeds 500 million users. The company's next financial report is scheduled for release on January 29.
