AMD has officially announced that the highly anticipated Ryzen 9 9900X3D and 9950X3D processors with 3D V-Cache will go on sale on March 12. This confirms earlier industry rumors that followed their debut at CES in January. However, the biggest surprise came from leaked pricing details in China, indicating a price hike compared to their predecessors.
According to listings on the Chinese segment of JD.com, the Ryzen 9 9950X3D is priced at 5,599 yuan (approximately $772), while the lower-tier 9900X3D is listed at 4,599 yuan (around $634). For comparison, their predecessors — the 7950X3D and 7900X3D — debuted in China at 5,299 and 4,499 yuan, respectively. This marks a 5-7% price increase, potentially due to more complex manufacturing processes or AMD’s stronger foothold in the premium segment.
Both processors are built on the AM5 platform, ensuring compatibility with 600- and 800-series chipsets. The Ryzen 9 9900X3D features 12 cores (6+6 CCD), while the high-end 9950X3D comes with 16 cores (8+8 CCD). In both models, one chiplet is equipped with an additional 64MB of L3 cache, promising record-breaking performance not only in gaming but also in demanding tasks like rendering and streaming.
The launch of the Ryzen 9000X3D series coincides with AMD’s aggressive push for its RDNA 4 architecture, further strengthening its position in the market. However, the price hike in China raises questions: will this trend extend globally, or is it a regional phenomenon? Analysts speculate that AMD may be testing price elasticity ahead of Intel’s upcoming competition. The real test will come on March 12 — will these new chips live up to the hype and retain their title as the kings of performance? One thing is certain: the battle for high-end gaming PCs is reaching a new level.
