Samsung brings AI subscription club to Galaxy phones
Samsung is preparing to expand its AI Subscription Club, offering users a chance to subscribe to Galaxy smartphones starting next month. This development was confirmed by Han Jong-hee, vice chair of Samsung Electronics.
The AI Subscription Club, launched in South Korea last December for AI-powered home appliances such as TVs, refrigerators, and washing machines, allows users to pay monthly for devices and optional maintenance services. This reduces the initial cost and offers flexibility.
The subscription will now cover Galaxy smartphones and the new Ballie AI robot. Ballie, first introduced five years ago, is expected to launch in 2025 and will initially be available via subscription in South Korea and the United States. Notably, the subscription is not required to access the AI features on Galaxy smartphones. Samsung has stated that these features will remain free for users at least until the end of 2025, with future monetization plans yet to be announced.
It is unclear whether the subscription service will roll out globally, but more details may be revealed at Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked event on January 22, 2025. The event is expected to showcase the Galaxy S25 series, providing further insights into Samsung's evolving ecosystem. This move signals Samsung’s shift toward flexible purchasing models, giving users more accessibility to its cutting-edge technology.
