Fallout 4 players are complaining about non-functional graphic modes on the Xbox Series X, but Bethesda disagrees
Console gamers playing the next-gen version of Fallout 4 have noticed that the Quality and Performance graphics modes on the Xbox Series X are indistinguishable from each other. In both cases, the frame rate and graphic quality remain the same, although the official patch notes claimed otherwise.
Bethesda responded to the remarks, stating that on the Xbox Series X, both presets aim for 4K at 60 frames per second, but the performance-focused mode is «more aggressive in lowering settings to maintain this target.» When journalist Tom Warren asked why the patch notes mention different information, the company did not respond.
What's stated in the patch notes:
- Quality mode: 4K at 30 FPS, ultra graphics settings;
- Performance mode: dynamic 4K at 60 FPS, standard graphics settings;
- If the console is connected to a 1440p display, the game will run at 1440p/60 FPS regardless of the chosen graphics mode.
It's worth noting that on the PS5, both presets differ in terms of graphics and frame rates.
The next-gen update was released on April 25. In addition to graphic settings, it added new quests and items.
