Dark Souls Remastered is a reissue of the hardcore role-playing action game with a third-person view in a fantasy setting. The game takes place in the fictional kingdom of Lordran, reminiscent of medieval Europe. You must stop the curse that turns everyone into undead. To do this, you will have to defeat many very strong opponents and die more than once, losing all the points accumulated for leveling up and starting over from the last checkpoint.
Dark Souls Remastered is a role-playing game with elements of action and survival, set in a dark fantasy universe, released for PC, PS4, and Xbox One on May 24, 2018, and for Nintendo Switch in the summer of 2018. It is simultaneously a reissue of Dark Souls from 2011 and the PC version of Dark Souls: Prepare To Die Edition, released in 2012, also including the expansion Artorias of the Abyss.
The level of changes in the remaster is superficial, with only minor improvements made to graphics, gameplay, and the online mode. The original content has not been touched, and no new quests or bosses have been added. The gameplay formula and its unhurried, measured pace have been preserved in their entirety, which will surprise those who have played Dark Souls 3 or Bloodborne.
In terms of graphics quality, the changes are minor, aimed at covering current platforms. Support for 4K resolution at 60 FPS has been added for PC, PS4 Pro, and XOne X. On the Nintendo Switch, the reissue runs in FullHD and 30 FPS. Lighting has been improved in all locations, enhancing the play of light and shadow. Equipment models have been reworked to reflect light from dynamic sources.
Only the worst textures have been replaced or improved, the majority remain unchanged. Character, enemy, and boss models have not been improved, and the animation has not changed. The game world is still divided into large levels with spacious areas and narrow passages.
The user interface has been refined for greater convenience and visual comfort, and it can be scaled to suit individual preferences. A number of changes have been additionally made for PC and Switch, for example, on PC you can remap buttons and combinations, customizing the controls to your liking.
The PC version of Dark Souls Remastered is considered the best, as it allows players to adjust resolution, anti-aliasing, render type, buffering, options like motion blur and depth effect.
The developers have made many small tweaks to make the game a little more convenient for players, listing the most important ones. You can change the covenant (analogous to a clan) at the bonfire. The ability to quickly switch to the first item in the quick access bar has been added. From Dark Souls 3, the dependence on weapon upgrades and several types of upgrades themselves have been introduced.
You can use multiple consumables at once, and healing items do not work in another's world (except for estus). Players cannot summon phantoms again and again during a battle with an enemy phantom.
A dedicated server is used for player matchmaking, after which players connect via p2p, as in the newer games in the series. The quality and stability of the connection have significantly improved, especially compared to the Prepare to Die Edition.
