King's Quest 3: To Heir is Human (1986)

King's Quest 3: To Heir is Human (1986) — the story moves from Daventry and King Graham to the land of Llewdor, where the evil wizard Manannan holds a boy named Gwydion. According to the preface, for as long as he could remember, 17-year-old Gwydion was held captive by Manannan as his servant, cooking and cleaning for him at his home on the top of a large mountain in Llewdor. From this vantage point and with the aid of a telescope, a seemingly all-knowing wizard observes the countryside, the coastline, and the vast ocean to the east and the vast desert to the west.

Manannan is absent several times and Gwydion takes his chance to escape. He breaks into the wizard's laboratory and reads Manannan's spellbook, then goes to Llewdor to gather ingredients for them. After solving many puzzles to obtain the ingredients of the spell, Gwydion turns Manannan into a cat and becomes free.
