Sherlock Holmes: Crimes and Punishments

Almost perfect game. Yes, it has some minor shortcomings and bugs, but it still deserves a rating of 9.5.

Pros: A significant breakthrough in this series of games. Now the player has more options. Even if you don’t know how to do something, you don’t have to give up; you can always look at the task log. The player may come to the wrong conclusion, but he can change his verdict. You can also condemn or acquit the criminal, depending on your moral reasoning.

Among the shortcomings of: there are some errors; in the second task, an additional pointer appeared at all locations, which was essentially static and attached to a specific place. The second drawback is the price of the game.

I really love games with my favorite literary characters. The Godfather, Agatha Christie: Evil under the Sun... They may not be perfect, but it's so nice to see all these heroes as game protagonists. One of these games is Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments. I wanted to play it before, but then an opportunity arose - it became available to all Plus subscribers in early March.

I remember, when I was still very young, I bought a disc with Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened, but for some reason it didn’t play. I don’t know if the computer didn’t work or something else. The disc seemed to be new. Well, okay, that’s not the point, however, there was no limit to the grief.

An excellent detective story about Sherlock Holmes! The game is exciting and can be played in one breath, but it also has its drawbacks.

Let's start with the pros:

1) Rich and beautiful graphics on the Unreal Engine 3

2) Each case has more than 1 ending, which one you choose is up to you

3) Moral choice (if the correct solution to the case exists and you can test yourself, then there is no moral choice. You yourself decide to accuse or acquit the criminal.)

4) The ability to create portraits of characters, which quite often helps to catch them in lies

5 ) Sherlock's abilities (help to detect barely noticeable traces and reconstruct events)

True Detective, which we deserve. I assure you, this is exactly the detective game that absolutely conveys everything that you want to see from a quality quest with Sherlock Holmes. Interesting cases, a thorough approach to the investigation including analysis of evidence, use of the library, a self-created logical chain leading to the killer and certainly interesting cases. I can’t say for sure whether the game was good or not. Initially, the first few investigations really captivated me, and I played almost avidly. Pleasant graphics, interesting gameplay moments, choices at the end of the investigation - all this looked simply gorgeous. However, after completing half the game I got bored with it. No new elements have appeared, investigations have become even simpler than before. My opinion is that the developers needed to diversify the investigations not only with different locations, but also with some plot moves or gameplay moments. Otherwise, what is available from the very beginning becomes tiresome after only three or four tasks.
