The creator of Resident Evil and The Evil Within said he will not return to horror games

Game designer and producer Shinji Mikami, who participated in the creation of such games as Resident Evil, Hi-Fi Rush, The Evil Within and Ghostwire: Tokyo, does not intend to return to horror projects. He spoke about this when commenting on his departure from the Tango Gameworks studio.

Shinji Mikami spoke on a talk show, explaining the reasons why he left Tango Gameworks, which he founded in 2010. Let us remind you that this became known in February 2023. Under his leadership, the studio released The Evil Within, Ghostwire: Tokyo and Hi-Fi Rush.

According to Shinji Mikami, he had been planning to leave for eight years, but he was held back by a sense of responsibility towards the projects. The motivation to leave Tango Gameworks was the desire to create «an environment that would allow young developers to gain experience more often.» In addition, he wanted to get rid of working on genres such as horror and survival simulators.

Recently, the creator of Resident Evil founded a new game studio, Kamuy. His new company will focus on creating small games and training developers.

Let us remind you that earlier information appeared about a possible change in the release date of Resident Evil 9.
