Microsoft has decided to close four Bethesda studios, including Arkane Austin and Tango Gameworks. This was reported by Jason Schreier and IGN.
Studios closed by Microsoft:
- Arkane Austin — worked on Redfall, Prey;
- Tango Gameworks — developed Hi-Fi Rush, The Evil Within series;
- Alpha Dog Studios — created Mighty Doom;
- Roundhouse Games — formerly Human Head Studios, developers of Rune 2.
In a letter from the head of Xbox Game Studios, Matt Booty, it was stated that the closure of the studios is linked to a desire to focus on «high-impact» games. Some of the Arkane Austin staff will be transferred to other Bethesda studios, and Roundhouse Games will assist with the development of The Elder Scrolls Online. The failed Redfall will no longer receive major updates, but developers will not shut down the servers.
Arkane Austin and Tango Gameworks have already confirmed the closure news, publishing farewell messages to players.
