March 30, 2024, 02:21 PM
Microsoft and OpenAI are planning to create a computer worth $100 billion, primarily aimed at working in the field of artificial intelligence, as reported by The Information.
Here's what is known so far:
- The project is planned to be launched by 2028;
- The supercomputer has been named Stargate;
- It will be based on millions of chips designed to process data generated by neural networks;
- The estimated cost is $100 billion — a hundred times more than what is spent on creating the most extensive data centers;
- The performance of the supercomputer will be increased in stages. For example, a certain peak is expected to be reached by 2030, but upgrades may continue even after that;
- Currently, Stargate is in the planning stage.
It's worth noting that before the release of Stargate, Microsoft plans to build a $10 billion supercomputer based on an already existing data center.
