Cyberpunk 2077 Devs Reveal How «Digimmortal» Exhibit Evolved in Phantom Liberty

CD Projekt RED has released their third article for Blocktober, a month dedicated to sharing insights into level design, with the latest piece focusing on Andrzej Gielzak. Gielzak worked on the side mission «No Easy Way Out» for Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, offering a closer look at how the «Digimmortal» exhibit evolved throughout the development of the DLC.

Originally, the exhibit's location was intended for a main quest, but it was later scaled down and repurposed for a side mission. The centerpiece of the exhibit is a giant robot statue, symbolizing human progress while also serving as a navigational landmark for players. Gielzak ensured the space retained elements of the building's original design while adding the chaotic touch of the Scavengers who had taken over the area.

Vertical gameplay played a significant role in the level's design, with enemies retreating to higher floors during combat, forcing players to follow them upwards. Another essential part of the mission is the ripperdoc's office, which overlooks the central hall, connecting different parts of the level and enhancing the sense of space.
