Fans Theorize How Geralt Will Return In The Witcher 4

CD Project RED recently revealed that Geralt will appear in the upcoming The Witcher 4, albeit not as the main character. Fans have put forward a funny, but quite plausible theory about how exactly Ciri will cross paths with her adoptive father.

The key to it all is Gwent. Although the card game was not a mandatory element of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, jokes about Geralt's love for this mini-activity have spread beyond the fandom. In a recent interview with the Easy Allies YouTube channel, game director Sebastian Kalemba and executive producer Gosia Mitręga confirmed that Gwent will appear in The Witcher 4.

It's a part of the experience, so absolutely. We also love Gwent, we cannot imagine [the game without it].
— Sebastian Kalemba

In addition, in another interview with the Skill Up podcast, the developers said that Geralt still lives in his estate in Toussaint. Fans of the series on Reddit immediately came up with a picture of how exactly the old witcher will be presented in The Witcher 4:

Geralt’s going to be the final Gwent boss and he’s going to be throwing down spies left and right just like we’ve worked on together for so many years.
— LozaMoza82
The Grand Gwent Tourney is held in Toussaint because the undefeated Grand Champion lives there and does not wish to commute. Also, he uses a Northern Realms deck with the double siege bonus loaded with spies, decoys and Villentretenmerth cards.
— CerberusGate
What we need is for The Witcher 4 to let us upload Geralt's deck from our TW3 save file. Let's see how good we are when we're up against our own weapon of choice.
— ImprovizoR

Whether this is true or not, we'll see it when the The Witcher 4 is released, which won't happen anytime soon, since active development started this year. In the meantime, CD Project RED shared the first details of the game and revealed that the first trailer showed one of the future quests.
