The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Complete Edition — the most complete edition The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, including all expansions, add-ons The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine and The Witcher 3: Hearts of Stone, as well as numerous graphical enhancements. Owners of the original version of the game on consoles and PC received the Complete Edition as a free upgrade. The upgrade is available regardless of the presence of add-ons, the account must have the original game.

The events of the final part of Geralt's adventures begin shortly after the finale of The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings. Nilfgaard has successfully conquered Temeria and plans to subjugate the other northern lands. Meanwhile, the famous witcher Geralt and his wise mentor Vesemir are on the trail of the missing sorceress Yennefer, the long-lost love of the White Wolf. You can expect an adventure-filled game world, a brilliant plot, an excellent combat system, stunning graphics, non-linearity, multiple endings, and a cozy atmosphere of Slavic medieval fantasy.

New features of the Complete Edition:

  • photo mode, available at any moment. When setting the frame, four menus are available: “camera angle,” “depth of field,” “effects,” and “overlay,” each with a range of parameters;
  • alternative camera position — slightly away from the character's back and with greater sensitivity when moving the stick/mouse. Now you can see every action of the character and the models around him. In the settings, you can set the preferred camera position when walking, in combat, or riding a horse;
  • the map has become more accurate and detailed, unnecessary question marks and boat icons have been removed, and the filter can be turned off in the settings. As well as the display of the mini-map itself and/or the list of current objectives;
  • quick access to all witcher signs, consolidated into a new menu, opened by pressing a separate button;
  • Geralt's walking speed now depends on the degree of tilt of the stick (only on gamepads), and the damage from his fall is calculated based on the height. Out of combat, running does not consume stamina;
  • when watching cutscenes and videos, you can pause them at any moment, as all pre-recorded moments have been replaced with scenes on the engine;
  • customizable font size for subtitles, interface, dialogue choices, and other text elements;
  • bugs and inaccuracies in the Russian translation have been fixed, character chatter with accelerated or slowed playback of lines relative to lip movement;
  • cross-platform saves between PC and consoles via CD Projekt's “cloud” (account required);
  • new quest “In the Shadow of Eternal Fire” with multiple endings, inspired by the Netflix series — rewards include blueprints for Geralt's swords and armor from seasons 1 and 2 of the series, Renfri's brooch, and a “series” version of the witcher's medallion;
  • also from season 1 have migrated alternative Nilfgaardian leather armor for Geralt, the outfit of the bard ally Dandelion, and some other characters;
  • the gameplay rebalance has changed most perks, abilities, signs, potions, some types of weapons and armor with a focus on realism. An invincible build is now impossible, and you won't be able to heal with "Delicacy." Skills now have recovery after use, so spamming them endlessly is not possible. However, the beginning of the game has become significantly easier;
  • the progression system has been adjusted — all skills now have 3 levels instead of 5, so Geralt can be leveled up in one playthrough, and the effect from enhancing each specific skill is stronger;
  • additional testing revealed minor but unpleasant bugs from the original that have been fixed. All previously released technical updates have also been included.

Graphics innovations in the Complete Edition:

  • ray tracing on PC and PS5/XSX consoles without vendor lock-in for the graphics chip. On video adapters without RT cores, software ray tracing is used, i.e., only the basic capabilities of this technology;
  • game performance has been improved through frame scaling (FSR 2.0 technology on AMD graphics cards and PS5/XSX consoles or DLSS on Nvidia graphics cards);
  • the resolution of textures for almost all objects has been increased, and the number of full-fledged 3D objects has grown, instead of their earlier imitations;
  • character and monster models have been improved with 4K textures, and armor display bugs have been fixed;
  • grass has been improved, and almost all in-game vegetation has been reworked;
  • clouds have been changed, and new weather conditions have been added;
  • around a dozen new animations have been created for Geralt and Roach, for example, petting;
  • all objects now have reflections on their surfaces when wet (previously, the effect was only present in water);
  • the PC version received a new graphics settings option, "Beyond+", affecting 8 main points;
  • on PS4, XOneX, and Switch, the listed innovations are absent, except for the new quest and items in the style of the Netflix series, bug fixes, and cross-platform saves;
  • the Complete Edition is the base version for PS5, XSX, and their successors in the ninth generation of consoles, and it has also replaced the original in sales, both in digital form and on physical media.

Background of the game world

Witcher 3 is the first game in the series with a fully open world, set in the Northern Kingdoms during the third invasion of the Nilfgaardian Empire. The game area of Witcher 3 is 30 times larger than that of Witcher 2, and players can use a horse — Roach — for movement.

The world is divided into regions with different landscapes and developments, inhabited by various ethnic groups. There are 15 full-fledged states and more than 20 principalities and free cities that, depending on the player's actions, will unite for defense or be conquered. The design of the settlements resembles medieval Eastern Europe, but there are buildings of Scandinavian type.

The rest of the game world offers entire mountains and valleys, fields and forests, rivers and lakes, caves and underground vaults for exploration. Swamps and "forbidden places" where monsters usually dwell are present. The bestiary of Witcher 3 is extremely diverse; on the player's path, they will encounter not only bandits and wild animals but also vampires, ghosts, ogres, earth elementals, griffins, succubi, and other monsters.

The game world is filled with numerous events, both random and scripted, programmed as closely to possible reality as possible, so that traveling through it is interesting.

Key Characters

  • Geralt of Rivia — a wandering monster hunter (witcher) who wields two swords in battle, skillfully fights, uses magical signs and potions to enhance his abilities. He constantly finds himself at the center of important events.
  • Triss — a sorceress, Geralt's lover and friend of Yennefer, well-known from previous games in the series. In the third part, her supportive role for Geralt during his long journeys remains unchanged.
  • Yennefer — a sorceress whom Geralt loves, but their mutual feelings cannot balance the different natures of the lovers. Geralt searched for her for a long time, but she first appeared in the third part.
  • Ciri — a young witcher whom Geralt trained, but not completely. She is pursued by the "Wild Hunt" due to the peculiarities of her true origin. She is key to the plot.

Plot

The "Wild Hunt" is not just the title of the game — it is a squad of elite ghostly riders from another dimension, the dying world of elves, who seek to migrate to the human world. It is led by the elven king Eredin, who is willing to open a portal at any cost, for which he kidnaps people capable of leading him to Ciri. The antagonist does not even realize that Geralt is comparable to him in strength and cunning.

At the same time, the Nilfgaard Empire is engulfing the Northern Kingdoms one after another. The player can choose one side of the conflict to contribute to the political structure of the game world by participating in battles and sieges. Simultaneously, Emperor Emhyr orders Geralt to find and save Ciri.

Unlike other role-playing games, the mechanics of Witcher 3 allow the player not to undertake secondary quests; events will unfold regardless of whether Geralt participated in them or not. Each main quest offers several development options that affect the game's ending. The writers meticulously crafted the story, dialogues, and added numerous cutscenes.

Secondary quests set a high bar, as most of them are well-developed and strikingly different from standard open-world quests of "kill" and "fetch". The story can be completed quickly in 40 hours, as expected for 50. The same amount of time will be spent exploring the game world and completing secondary quests.

Single player

The combat system has been completely overhauled, allowing Geralt to fight multiple opponents simultaneously. The system of combos and attack chains is absent; the player must simply strike, defend, and counterattack in a timely manner, dodge, and take cover. The mechanics of silver and steel swords have not changed, but an alternative has been added — bombs and a crossbow.

The system of five magical signs has been refined, and they can now be used both in combat and in everyday life. To complete quests, players often have to use "Witcher senses" to interact with the game world. Monsters and creatures have been given strengths and weaknesses, which must be known to deal with them quickly.

Alchemy has been made more complex, but by drinking potions, Geralt gains special abilities, increases his stats, or deals more damage to specific enemies. The maximum character level is 70, but it changes depending on the game's difficulty. As before, Geralt can improve his talents by choosing a specialization and corresponding skills.

Complete Edition and mods

Years after its release, Wild Hunt has gained hundreds of user modifications, most of which have also moved to the updated version. Moreover, it integrates mods like The Witcher 3 HD Reworked Project, HD Monsters Reworked, Immersive Real-time Cutscenes, Nitpicker's Patch, World Map Fixes, and many components of the FCR Mod by default.

CD Projekt also released a new version of the Modkit — a toolkit for modders, with improvements and additions, ensuring the project a lifespan for decades to come.

Key features

  • Numerous, well-crafted romantic scenes.
  • Player actions lead the world to 1 of 36 possible final states.
  • Very high replayability, both in terms of story and gameplay. The game can be completed three times in completely different ways.
  • Witcher 3 received 16 free DLCs with game content and 2 major story expansions — Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine.
  • Players can import saves from the PC version of Witcher 2, allowing the choices made to reflect in the third part. This will affect the state of the world, the presence of secondary characters, and quests.

Reviews and ratings

I began my acquaintance with the world of The Witcher precisely from this part. Didn't play the previous two, didn't read the books. But even here, I was so drawn into this game that I got out of it, not shaved, hungry, not sleeping....in the good sense of the word. The plot is something with something, so tasty that no film can hold a candle to it, the characters are developed at 10+. The dialogues are just hilarious. There is swearing, in moderation and tastefully. Sometimes the twist of the plot makes your brain go askew (again, in a good sense of the word). While you are running to complete the main task, along the way you meet two people who ask for help. You stop and start helping. After an hour and a half of completing quests FOR THESE PEOPLE, you remember about the main task. Becau… Read full

Read full
