World of Warcraft Player Almost Brings Back One of the Most Horrifying Events in MMO History
In 2005, World of Warcraft experienced a real epidemic called the Corrupted Blood incident. Almost 20 years later, one of the players accidentally recreated this event, but on a small scale and for a short time.
The Corrupted Blood incident was a completely unplanned event that swept across three servers in 2005. It all started with the Hakkar the Soulflayer dungeon, to which the developers added a special «corrupted blood» effect that took away health points from players during the fight and transferred to other participants nearby like a real virus.
The debuff was not supposed to spread outside the boss's location. However, someone summoned a pet during the battle that «infected» itself with the plague, and then released it outside the dungeon. A real pandemic began in the game world with cities littered with «corpses» of players and rapidly emptying servers. Some participants even began hunting survivors, trying to infect as many players as possible, while others hid in fear in the countryside. The event caused such a stir that in 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Corrupted Blood incident formed the basis for a study of human behavior during epidemics.
And now 2005 has repeated itself, but on a much smaller scale. A curious incident occurred in WoW Classic on the Living Flame server. One of the players managed to capture the moment when a very familiar effect began to spread among the characters again. Reddit suggested that this was not the same debuff, but the effect of a weaker version of the boss Hakkar the Soulflayer from another dungeon.

Fortunately, the new «plague» did not spread widely. However, many Redditors spoke out in favor of Blizzard repeating this historical event for new generations of players one day.
Recently, one of the players of another legendary Blizzard game managed to complete an «impossible» mission. Let us remind you that the remasters of WarCraft and WarCraft 2 have also become available on PC.
