Borderlands 4 Won't Be Open World, But Will Be Seamless
Gearbox studio head Randy Pitchford shared some details about the locations in Borderlands 4. They will be seamless, but you can't expect a full-fledged open world.
The other day, a blogger with the nickname MentalMars suggested that the game's locations will be able to be explored in any direction, but his theory was refuted by Randy Pitchford himself. The Gearbox boss responded in the comments under his post that the term «open world» does not apply to the future game:
It is noteworthy that Randy Pitchford recently spoke with GameSpot and shared some new information about Borderlands 4. Several important points can be gleaned from the interview:
- The game world will indeed be seamless;
- At some point, players will be able to reach the moon without any loading;
- Any visible point on the visible horizon will be available for visiting;
- To explore the world, you will need a grappling hook.
In addition, the head of Gearbox Software insisted that Borderlands 4 will not have generated content, so all points of interest will be created manually. Probably, instead of the usual open world, players will get something like interconnected locations, like in the God of War reboot.
Recall that the project will be released this year on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X / S.
Earlier, the narrative director of Borderlands 4 spoke out against «toilet humor» in the game. And recently, Gearbox invited a terminally ill fan to the office who wanted to play an early build.
