The game takes place six years after Borderlands 3. The setting is the never-before-seen planet Kairos. For a long time, this distant world was cut off from the rest of the galaxy: the local population was essentially in slavery and served a mysterious antagonist - the Guardian of Time. The Tyrant kept the people in submission with the help of a personal army called Order, as well as mind control technologies.
Everything changed when Lilith, the heroine of Borderlands, launched one of the moons of Kairos into the planet. As a result of a terrible cataclysm, the world was transformed beyond recognition, but its inhabitants had a chance to rebel - which they took advantage of. The resulting chaos attracted Vault Hunters seeking glory.
The plot of Borderlands 4 features both familiar characters like Moxxi, Zane, Amara or the annoying robot Claptrap, as well as completely new ones. One of the most important is the robot Echo 4, which acts as something of a guide for the Vault Hunters.
One of the main changes in the game was the expansion of the arsenal of movements: now all heroes are equipped with a grappling hook, can perform a double jump, side dashes, tackles, climb walls and even glide in the air, which makes exploring the world more dynamic and exciting. Vertical level design emphasizes the increased mobility of characters, and the flying DigiRunner bike, available at almost any time, eliminates the need to look for special transport call points.
In Borderlands 4, for the first time, it became possible to customize weapons by combining modules from different manufacturers - for example, you can assemble a Vladof assault rifle with increased energy damage due to the barrel from Maliwan. Grenades and heavy weapons now do not require ammunition and work on the recoil principle, which allows them to be used without restrictions even in normal battles. In addition, a new type of equipment has been added - a repair kit, with which you can instantly resurrect after a fall or activate temporary bonuses that can change the course of the battle.
