Leak: GTA San Andreas source code appears online
It appears that an archive with the source code of the original Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is circulating online. The discovery was noticed by a user with the nickname NationalPepper.
Judging by the screenshots, the weight of the discovered archive is more than 4.8 GB. While its contents cannot be viewed due to the password, some enterprising people are already offering to buy the key for money. Most likely, over time, the fan community will crack the archive on their own.
But it looks like someone did have access. Users have already shared the first screenshot of the code, where they found a mention of skateboards in the game. One of the developers of GTA San Andreas, Obbe Vermeij, confirmed that skateboards could have been both transport and weapons, but the mechanics were cut.
Meanwhile, Reddit recalled how the GTA San Andreas code from the Definitive Edition leaked online in 2021. At that time, only mission-related content fell into the hands of fans. As for the original San Andreas, its code was supposedly already circulating in private circles, but only now has it become publicly available. Most likely, modders will get access to many resources for their projects.
Earlier, the source code of Saints Row 4 was posted online. Judging by the postscript, someone decided to take revenge on Embracer Group in this way. Also, one of the Reddit users allegedly filmed a frame with an early build of GTA 6 in the Rockstar Games office.
