GTA 6 is the first game in the series with a female character in the lead role. It is Lucia in this criminal duo — a determined gangster who can face any danger.

The concept of GTA 6 was developed in 2013, pre-production started in 2015, after the release of the PC version of GTA 5, and full development began with the release of Red Dead Redemption 2 in 2018. Until 2022, there was no information about the game, except for numerous rumors from various insiders.

The long development and the transition of employees to remote work led to leaks. In September 2022, a hacker leaked a lot of information about GTA 6, which correlated well with the words of insiders. The leak did not affect the studio's plans and the pace of development; the revealed parts of the game were not changed or redone.

During their adventures, players will visit a variety of natural-territorial complexes: azure beaches and blue lagoons, deciduous forests and picturesque meadows, vast swamps and mangrove thickets, desert outskirts and rocky highlands, caves, lakes, and hills — all richly filled with wildlife. The world of GTA 6 also reflects the various weather conditions of Florida: winds and hurricanes, thunder and lightning, with certain areas submerged in mud.

The world can be explored thoroughly, with players able to move on foot, using more than a hundred vehicles and other wheeled machines, or via personal helicopters, airplanes, and yachts. Players can swim and dive underwater, exploring the ocean floor, which is detailed just as well as the rest of the game world. There are also unusual modes of transportation — jetpacks, wing suits, or grappling hooks. Visiting all the main corners of GTA 6 is facilitated by the interweaving of the road network and bridges, but reaching certain points can only be done by air or water, adding significant variety to the exploration process.

As of May 2025, the full map of GTA 6 remains a secret, and trailers have not revealed the size of the world. It is assumed that the game space of GTA 6 is shaped like an island and significantly surpasses GTA 5. Numerous buildings, from shacks and diners to stadiums and skyscrapers, will delight with diverse architecture. And all this is connected by endless kilometers of roads, from narrow alleys with graffiti on the walls to wide highways.

Vice City delights with a minimum of empty spaces; Rockstar aimed to occupy every square meter of the game world. The urban development is interwoven with diverse nature — grasses, shrubs, trees, creating a vibrant and realistic world. Water takes various forms: from private pools and entire bodies of water, civilized navigable canals and ocean coastline, to quiet inlets and wild lagoons. All areas are connected by transport highways and bridges, while the subway system provides quick movement.

The culture of Vice City combines Latin American and American motifs, focusing on a beautiful life, fashion, and popularity. The residents embrace a free and eccentric lifestyle, reflected in the bustling entertainment with bars, restaurants, clubs, and parties until dawn.

In GTA 6, there are two main characters: a woman, Lucia Caminos (a Latina), and a man, Jason Duval (a local). They form a criminal duo connected not only by their common business but also by feelings. Lucia sets the pace, and Jason covers her. At the beginning of the campaign, the player will play as Jason — dealing with routine tasks, adapting, and passing messages to Lucia in prison. When she is released, the opportunity to switch between characters will arise.

Jason is a local resident with a complicated fate: he grew up in a criminal environment, tried to stay on the right path — served in the army, and attempted to stay within the law. However, the desire for a life outside the rules prevailed. At the start of the game, he works for a drug dealer in the Kees area, collecting debts, and lives in a house provided by a local authority — in exchange for his services.

Jason is physically fit, spends a lot of time in the gym, has an impressive musculature, and a confident demeanor. His image is a mix of threat, charisma, and resilience. He is not afraid of conflict and is always ready to solve problems with force. It’s no surprise that he quickly attracts attention in the game — both female gazes and scenes of fights and chases emphasize this in the trailer.

Lucia is the opposite of Jason in origin but not in spirit. Hailing from Liberty City, she has sought a better life since her youth, a life her mother could not build. Her strong character and self-defense skills are thanks to her father, who raised her not to back down from difficulties. Lucia has already been through prison, where she ended up trying to help her family, and she was released early — either by a stroke of luck or due to someone else's intervention.

After her release, she had a clear plan for her criminal career that she intends to execute. She is ambitious, determined, and much cooler-headed than her partner. She is the ideologist and driving force of their criminal duo.

Players can switch between characters on the fly in free play mode, but missions from the campaign will be played out for him/her. Nothing is known yet about the class system and character development in GTA 6.

As of spring 2025, there are no details about the plot of GTA 6. Rumor has it that the main campaign will last 35–40 hours. Players will participate in heists, robberies, car thefts, raids, shootouts, and chases on land and water — all against the backdrop of developing relationships between the characters.
