Former PlayStation President Surprised by Horizon Forbidden West Sales, Expected Higher Numbers

Former president of PlayStation Studios (previously known as SIE Worldwide Studios), Shuhei Yoshida, recently expressed in an interview that the sales of Horizon Forbidden West, released in 2022 on PS4 and PS5, did not meet his expectations. He anticipated the game would sell in higher volumes.

According to him, Horizon Forbidden West is a sequel to an already well-established and highly regarded franchise. Based on this, Shuhei Yoshida believed the project should have achieved higher sales. Nevertheless, he described the sequel as "grand and magnificent".

In May 2023, Sony announced that Horizon Forbidden West had sold 8.4 million copies. On March 21, 2024, the game was released on PC, becoming the sixth-largest release for the publisher on Steam. It currently holds an 89% positive review rating based on 13.7 thousand reviews.

As for Horizon Zero Dawn, its sales reached 24.3 million copies by April 2023. The game was released in 2017 on PS4 and in 2020 on PC. Sony later released a remaster.

It's worth noting that Shuhei Yoshida served as president of SIE Worldwide Studios from 2008 to 2019. Afterward, he became the head of PlayStation Indies, but he officially left the company this month.

Additionally, Sony recently announced a film adaptation of Horizon Zero Dawn.
