Various game journalists have published reviews of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, a turn-based action RPG in an unusual setting. Let us remind you that the project from Sandfall Interactive will be released in April on PC and consoles.

The plot of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 unfolds in a world inspired by France in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Every year, a godlike being named the Paintress draws a certain number in the sky, after which people of the same age die a year later. And time after time, expeditions of the doomed are sent overseas to try to fight the threat. As the name suggests, the game's team will include 33-year-old characters.

Judging by the final previews, players can expect spectacular combat with various companion abilities, interesting characters with their own destinies and personalities, and rich gameplay. IGN noted the deeply developed combat system, which has room for both combinations of abilities and strategy. In addition, the combat will offer parries like in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice — successful execution will bring additional action points to the player.

Surprise. Conviction. Curiosity. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 nails all three. It had my interest before I played it; now it has my undivided attention. If Sandfall can stick the landing, they’ll have put together something remarkable.

A Eurogamer journalist praised the bright and unusual design of the locations of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 — there will be no open world in the game, but the player will be able to explore many hidden corners of the world. By the way, without a mini-map. The Gamer noted the visual style — the enemies are designed as bizarre art deco creatures — the music, reminiscent of Japanese motifs, and the interesting bosses, each of which is capable of challenging the player. GameRant also did not skimp on praise:

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has all the makings of a Game of the Year contender; it's strikingly beautiful, packs an intriguing story, and is a ton of fun to play.

Recall that the game is released on April 24 for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. The system requirements for the PC version can be found here.
